Renewals

Visa Renewals in 2025

Due to the significant backlog of appointments at the newly formed AIMA (Agência para a Imigração e Mobilidade Administrativa), the Portuguese government has extended the validity of all residency visas until June 30, 2025. However, this extension is only valid within Portugal, which presents challenges for international travel and official documentation. Once the current backlog of initial residency appointments is addressed, a new backlog of renewal appointments will arise. The only viable solution to secure an appointment promptly is to initiate judicial proceedings to expedite the process.

Yes, but only in Portugal. If you travel outside of Portugal, no other border control abides by the internal extensions of Portuguese authorities.

We have currently successfully submitted judicial processes against the state and received renewal appointments for clients.

This is hard to say. It takes about two weeks to prepare the process, and it can take 2-4 weeks for an answer, and then 1-3 months to set the appointment.

Please note: Appointments can only be requested 30 days before the expiration of your current residency card (allowing a 6-week lead time before expiration).
